2017 SPIE Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship Announced

BELLINGHAM, Washington, USA – May 12, 2017 – Luke Hardy has been awarded a 2017 Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, for his potential contributions to the field of optics, photonics or related field.

Luke Hardy is a PhD candidate at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte pursuing a degree in Optical Science and Engineering. He is conducting research in the Biomedical Optics Laboratory with Professor Nathaniel Fried. His current research interest is in laser therapies, specifically using a Thulium fiber laser for ablation of kidney stones or laser lithotripsy. He is also the president of the UNC Charlotte student chapter of SPIE.
