The Physics Minor allows students to document a concentration in physics that is substantial, but less than that required for a major. Students majoring in another department may choose to minor in physics. A minor in physics may strengthen the academic credentials of the student applying for employment or graduate school after receiving a degree in such fields as chemistry, engineering, or mathematics. A minor in physics requires a minimum of 17 credit hours with an average grade of C or better. There are two options: Option 1: PHYS 2101, 2102, 2101L, 2102L, 3141, and at least six additional hours at the 3000-4000 level selected from a list of approved courses that is available in the Department of Physics and Optical Science. PHYS 3000, 3900, 4000, or 4800 may be used to fulfill the 17-semester hour requirement only if approved in advance for this purpose by the Undergraduate Studies Committee.
